Scuderia Corsa and Mattioli Automotive Group provide a 100% Ferrari weekend at Ferrari Challenge Sonoma Raceway
April 11, 2016 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – At this past weekend’s Ferrari Challenge round at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California, you didn’t have to look far to find Scuderia Corsa or the Ferrari Silicon Valley, Ferrari Los Angeles, Ferrari Beverly Hills and Ferrari South Bay dealerships. Whether it was on the highway, in the paddock, or on the track, the team entertained clients and left its mark on each component of the weekend.
Before the first car hit the track, Ferrari Silicon Valley kicked up the excitement for the weekend by assembling Prancing Horses to drive from the dealership’s location in Redwood City to Sonoma. Several of those drivers also participated in the Corso Pilota Around the World, enjoying on-track driver instruction sessions – learning more about the capabilities of themselves as well as their Ferraris.
More on-track activity followed as drivers Ed Chalupa and Mike Heagerty took part in the Ferrari Challenge Esperienza sessions, providing them with valuable track time and feedback from the championship-winning Scuderia Corsa engineering team and driver coaches. Chalupa and Heagerty are part of Scuderia Corsa’s Driver Development Program which prepares early stage drivers. The same Scuderia Corsa staff guided the team’s five drivers in the weekend’s Ferrari Challenge races. Drivers Alistair Garnett, Neil Langberg, Darren Enenstein, Danny Baker and Wei Lu recorded competitive efforts in their race weekend at the Sonoma Raceway circuit in the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Challenge Evos. Despite challenging conditions caused by rain throughout the weekend, Lu recorded fourth-place finishes in the Trofeo Pirelli class in each race.
Off of the circuit, more than 120 guests hosted by the team enjoyed Ferrari VIP Hospitality and an up-close look at the Ferrari Classiche display which was provided by Scuderia Corsa’s partner dealerships. Fresh from the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, the no. 68 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GTE set the stage for Scuderia Corsa tech talks and demonstrated to guests the progression of Ferrari’s racing programs. The weekend couldn’t end in a more special way for Scuderia Corsa, as the Team was given the opportunity to provide lapping sessions and fulfill a child’s dream through Make-A-Wish foundation.
“This weekend was a fantastic opportunity for all of our friends and the families to enjoy what Ferrari is all about,” said Giacomo Mattioli, Scuderia Corsa team owner and President of Ferrari Beverly Hills/Los Angeles/South Bay/Silicon Valley. “The members of our Ferrari Challenge race team, Alistair, Neil, Darren, Wei, Danny, Ed and Mike were competitive and showed a great progression over the weekend in challenging conditions. I’d like to thank the friends from all of our dealers who graciously showcased their cars in the Ferrari Classiche display, as well as Ferrari North America for putting together such an ideal weekend.”
The next round of the Ferrari Challenge series will be May 13-15 at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
This weekend, Scuderia Corsa will compete in the IMSA SportsCar Championship and Pirelli World Challenge races at the Grand Prix of Long Beach in Long Beach, California.
