Ferrari 458 Speciale

The Ferrari 458 Speciale represents the next step in evolution for Ferrari’s lightweight V8 sport cars. The 458 Speciale features a 4.5L V8 that is the strongest naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari has ever produced with 596 horsepower. The Speciale has a curb weight of 3075 pounds, a full 200 pounds lighter then the 458 Italia. This results in significant increases in performance with a 0-60mph time dispatched in just 3.0s, a full 0.4 seconds faster than the 458 Italia, and a faster lap time around Fiorano of 1’23.5.

F1-derived aerodynamics pay considerable dividends in achieving these performance figures. The track continues to be Ferrari’s favored test bed for research and development. The Spider’s sinuous lines have been honed to reduce drag while generating no less than 572lbs of down force at 186 mph.

Significant improvements have also been wrought in the chassis department, with a 10 percent increase in torsional rigidity and a five percent improvement in beam strength over the 360 Spider. F430 Spider delivers the highest standards in handling and road holding. The innovative electronic differential and F1 transmission are instrumental in transferring the V8’s 483bhp (490 bhp DIN) to the road.

Description

Interior
The cockpit has a specifically racing-inspired atmosphere. Lightweight racing materials, such as Alcantara and carbon-fiber dominate the cockpit with the same craftsmanship typical of all Ferrari interiors, thanks to hand-stitching, aluminum step plates and gracefully sculpted door panels. The design keeps the same visual language as the 458 Italia, playing on the overlapping of materials and forms to visually break up the volumes and give emphasis to the comfort of the interior.
The cockpit’s ergonomic layout is boosted too by a carbon-fiber wing that extends over the central tunnel section, putting the F1 gearbox controls at an ideal angle to the driver. The Sabelt seats have carbon fiber shells, ergonomic side bolstering and, thanks to Alcantara padded shoulder-rests, exceptional grip. The backrests and seats are padded with a breathable 3D fabric for splendid air movement and comfort.

Exterior
Majority of the bodywork panels have been newly designed without modifying either the passenger chamber or the signature design features of the 458 Italia. The thickness of the glass used has been reduced to cut weight, while the rear windscreen is now a Lexan© panel.
The composite bumpers have been redesigned and the front hood now features two deep air ducts to channel away the air exiting the radiator.
The air ducts to the side of the headlight assemblies now also include three louvers reminiscent of past Ferraris such as the 250 GTO and the F40. The rear features a Kamm tail with a full-width grille between the taillights and twin exhausts.
The 458 Speciale is being unveiled in red livery featuring a blue and white central stripe inspired by the historic NART (North America Racing Team) livery. Its five-spoke wheels are available in three colors: gold, dark grey and black.

Engine
Ferrari’s most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever. The 458 Speciale pumps out 596 Horsepower and 398 LB-FT of torque while having a power to weight ratio of 2.13kg/cv. This very impressive V8 can lap Fiorano in just 1’23″5 thanks to its 7-Speed Dual Clutch Gearbox that gets all the power to the wheels.
